The advantages of considering an Open-Door Policy:

  • It will build trust amongst your staff and the organisation as a whole
  • This give your staff the understanding that you are there and willing to engage openly when the need arises
  • The trust factor will increase between your senior and junior levels
  • This transparency gains an honest understanding and this is always what we want to get back from our employees
  • Engaged employees are happy employees AND happy employees means good business

Having said that, it is advisable to have rules in place about the Open Door Policy:

  • Let staff know that if you cannot handle their need immediately you will give them a time to meet with them either later or the next day
  • If you are in the middle of your deadlines it is best to explain this, ask them if it is urgent or can wait till the next day and then you can get back to them with a time
