The Open-Door Policy is a loose arrangement or invitation whereby a senior person encourages juniors to stop in whenever they need assistance, guidance or have issues they need help with.
Reasons why you should consider an Open-Door Policy:
- Making it clear that you are willing to engage openly when the need arises, builds trust between senior and junior levels
- Transparency breeds honesty, which is what you want from your staff
- Engaged employees are happy employees
Having said that, it is advisable to have rules in place about the Open Door Policy: insist that an appointment be made – there is nothing more disruptive than employees walking in all times of the day with important issues to discuss ask what the issue or discussion is about so that you can make sure you are the correct person to deal with it prepare by asking whether it is a complaint, query or suggestion
